Ammunition identification and gun handling

Color-coded ammunition and locking points helped Warrior's crews select the right projectile, train heavy guns, and control recoil in action.

Notes

Color and cap markings helped gun crews distinguish four visible ammunition types quickly. Deck fittings allowed a carriage to train across several firing arcs and lock into position. The gun still had to slide on its mounting to absorb recoil. That moving weight could crush feet or kill sailors if handled badly. Gunnery performance depended on ammunition organization, deck hardware, and practiced crew drill as much as the weapon itself.
