The American ships named for disposal were old, but several still represented useful investment. Florida had received a major machinery overhaul, Utah became a target ship, and Wyoming continued as a training vessel. Arkansas remained operational long enough to fire her guns during the Second World War, while both Wyoming-class ships survived into the mid-1940s. The British comparison is starker: Iron Duke remained as a target and training vessel, but the other treaty casualties disappeared without similar wartime utility.

American retention and British disposal produced different legacies
Modernization, target conversion, training service, and wartime gunfire gave several American ships continuing value while Britain retained only Iron Duke as a target ship.
