How G3, N3, and Amagi construction schedules would overlap

Order, laying-down, and projected completion dates show why completed Amagis would arrive too late to redirect Britain's already committed G3 and N3 generation.

Notes

Order and laying-down dates show why completed Amagis could not redirect the British programme once it was underway. The G3s were ordered in late 1921, and an N3 order would likely follow roughly a year later, with construction continuing into about 1924. The first Amagi-class hulls were laid down in 1920, with later members following in 1921 and projected completions extending from 1923 into 1925. Those schedules would put the Royal Navy's G3 and N3 generation well beyond the point of easy replacement when the Japanese ships entered service. Counterfactual procurement therefore has to account for design work, orders, yard starts, and completion dates rather than compare finished ships in isolation.
