Altmark sustains Graf Spee's final campaign phase

The Altmark rendezvous provided supplies and space for prisoners while both ships prepared disguises; the date of further weapons transfers to the tanker remains uncertain.

Notes

After racing back from the Indian Ocean, Graf Spee met Altmark on 24 November for supplies and the transfer of more prisoners. Stores carried by the tanker and taken from merchant ships provided material for the disguises both vessels needed. Refueling also formed part of the preparations for further operations. Altmark had already received machine guns from Graf Spee and needed more weapons. Further guns may have changed hands at this meeting, although accounts place the transfer at different dates. The comparatively unhurried rendezvous makes 24 November a plausible estimate, rather than a firmly established transfer date.
