Alternative triple- and twin-turret batteries

The design exercise compares three triples, four triples, and mixed triple-and-twin batteries instead of assuming that one broadside arrangement was inevitable.

Notes

A larger test ship carries four triple six-inch secondary mounts, showing how the main-battery decision affects the rest of the armament. Several British capital-ship layouts are considered: three all-forward triples, four triples for a twelve-gun battery, or a mixed battery of three twin and two triple turrets. In the mixed version, a triple turret would be superfiring over twins. The comparison exposes the firepower, hull, and mounting choices behind the historical fleet that was actually built.
