Allied Pacific fleets needed compatible replenishment

The United States built an immense Pacific fleet train, but Britain still needed its own oilers and adopted compatible methods so Allied ships could support one another.

Question

Did the United States build enough oilers to sustain Pacific operations?

Short answer

Enough for its own system, though demand remained tight, so Britain supplied its fleet and adopted compatible American replenishment methods.

Notes

The US Navy produced enough oilers for its vast Pacific operations but still faced tight demand, leaving the British Pacific Fleet responsible for much of its own support. By 1944 American replenishment practice had advanced well beyond its 1941 form. British crews learned from that experience and aligned equipment and procedures so British and American ships could refuel one another when necessary. This was sensible coalition interoperability rather than evidence that the Royal Navy had previously ignored replenishment.
