Why do many air-power advocates dislike aircraft carriers?
Short answerCarriers compete with land-based range arguments and reveal that naval aviation requires a distinct service culture and set of capabilities.
NotesSome air-power advocates preferred extending aircraft range and capability from land bases. An aircraft carrier answers the distance problem by bringing the airfield closer to the target. Carrier aviation also has sufficiently different requirements to support an argument for separate service organization. That implication could put it at odds with advocates of a unified air service, especially in the interwar period.
