Why mixed AI gun batteries weaken fire control

The game's AI tends to add a wide variety of calibers instead of selecting a coherent main and secondary battery. A better design chooses the best available guns around a consistent fire-control solution. A focused battery can exploit range and accuracy, while the AI's mixed armament leaves its ships easier to outrange and outshoot. The automated designs have nevertheless improved substantially from earlier versions.
