Captain Dove remained a prisoner aboard Admiral Graf Spee after Africa Shell's crew had gone ashore. His captivity lasted until 14 December, following the Battle of the River Plate and Graf Spee's arrival at Montevideo. A surface raider entering a neutral harbour had to free its prisoners. Their release was a further gain for the Royal Navy after the battle.
