Four 4.7-inch guns gave the Admiral de Ruyter class modest firepower that was reasonably good for the 1920s. They occupied single A, B, X, and Y positions, with shields only on A and Y. The first four ships had two 75 mm anti-aircraft guns. The second four had one 75 mm anti-aircraft gun and two-pounders in single mounts, tentatively identified as 40 mm pom-pom-type weapons. All eight carried four machine guns. A 36-knot top speed and about 3,200 nautical miles of range at 15 knots gave the class useful interwar capability. Crews ranged from about 120 to 130 according to the group and task. The ships were capable, but only eight were built.
