Chapter ยท 2:30:42-2:41:08

The Helicarrier obeys the rule of cool

Rotors, deck geometry, top weight, and exposure make the Helicarrier spectacular but operationally hazardous.

Notes

The Helicarrier is a giant airborne target that lacks the protective distance available to a spacecraft. Its angled deck can direct a missed landing toward a rotor, while the rotors themselves disturb the air around likely flight paths. Operating first from water also raises streamlining and corrosion questions, and the finished vehicle carries enormous top weight. Stealth is one of the few explanations for its survival, but even that does not repair the deck geometry or vulnerability. The design succeeds visually through the rule of cool while failing the practical test applied to real carrier operations.
