808 Squadron began with Fulmars, flying from Ark Royal with Force H and claiming Axis aircraft over the Mediterranean. It re-formed with Seafires for convoy cover, the Salerno landings, bombardment spotting, and reconnaissance around Normandy. Hellcats later carried the squadron through strikes, reconnaissance, and occupation duties in Southeast Asia. Postwar service with the Royal Australian Navy aboard Sydney and Melbourne carried the squadron identity into Korea and the jet age.
