Cannon and command at Zonchio in 1499

At Zonchio, the first naval battle with cannon on both sides, command performance mattered more than the new weapons.

Notes

Zonchio, fought in August 1499, was the first naval battle in which both sides used cannon. It belonged to another Ottoman-Venetian war, twenty years after the previous conflict, with Castile and Aragon also involved. The guns did not decide the outcome by themselves. Leadership determined whether ships and weapons could be brought into an effective fight.
