Z35 and Z36 were lost in a German mine barrage

German mines sank Z35 and Z36 on 12 December 1944, removing scarce replacement destroyers after short service lives.

Notes

Z35 entered service on 22 September 1943 and sank at 01:51 on 12 December 1944 northeast of Reval. Two mines in a German defensive barrage caused the loss, followed by boiler and ammunition explosions. Z36 sank at 02:15 the same day for the same stated reason. These losses removed scarce ships whose improved armament and sensors promised useful capability. Their service of little more than a year contrasts with the slow process of replacing Germany's destroyer losses.
