Yugoslavia and control of river forces

Yugoslavia inherited much of its river capability from Serbian and Hungarian forces, making control and funding of the flotilla a political issue.

Notes

Yugoslav Danube forces were largely inherited, yet the government invested considerable effort in funding and controlling them. Much of the capability came from Serbian forces, with additional Hungarian assets. Control of the flotilla became an ongoing political question because of the river's importance. At times, disputes over that control absorbed political attention and obstructed work on other priorities. River capability therefore affected domestic politics as well as military policy.
