The wormhole as the Dominion War's decisive supply route

The debate over defending Earth becomes a lesson in identifying the enemy's decisive supply route rather than protecting the most politically prominent location.

Notes

The wormhole is presented as the logistical key to the Alpha Quadrant because it permits Dominion reinforcement and sustainment. Capturing Deep Space Nine and closing that route would isolate the deployed Dominion forces and make their position deteriorate over time. An attack on Earth might have immense political effect, but it would not reopen the severed supply line. The wormhole is compared with a single railway or major port whose control determines whether an army can be refreshed and supplied. The scene distinguishes strategic value from symbolic importance and asks why senior commanders need a captain to explain such a basic operational calculation.
