The Worcester class as a postwar cruiser benchmark

Brassey's 1949 supplies the Worcester class as a much larger postwar light-cruiser comparison with twelve 6-inch guns and heavy dual-purpose armament.

Notes

The Worcester comparison shows how rapidly the light-cruiser category expanded during the Second World War. At roughly 14,700 tons standard with twelve 6-inch and twenty-four 3-inch guns, it was a very different answer from the prewar Abruzzi class. Its 1948 completion places the design at the far end of a decade of growth in displacement and secondary armament. The two contemporary reference books make that change visible and keep the light-cruiser label from concealing how much the type had evolved.
