Wolford Chapel: a Canadian heritage site in Devon

Wolford Chapel is a Devon chapel linked to John Graves Simcoe and Upper Canada, and Ontario now owns the site.

Notes

Wolford Chapel illustrates why historians draw attention to historical places and encourage visits. Built in 1802 on the Simcoe family estate, it commemorates John Graves Simcoe's time as the first lieutenant governor of Upper Canada. Ontario Heritage took over the chapel in 1982, and Ontario still owns it. That history makes the chapel a small piece of Canada in Devon, with links to both Canadian and British history. It also serves as a memorial to what Canadians and Britons have achieved together. The building brings the Simcoe family, Upper Canada, and later Ontario stewardship together in one place.
