Chapter ยท 53:17-54:31

Wind, galleasses, and the contested landward flank

A wind shift enabled the Holy League's deployment, but a gap near shore let Sirocco turn the landward flank as galleasses disrupted the Ottoman advance.

Notes

The wind initially favored the Ottomans, then shifted before noon and helped the Holy League form its line. One part of the allied formation still failed to settle into its intended position. Barbarigo's Venetian division could not close fully against the shore, allowing Sirocco to pass between it and the land. The resulting flank action became a dense ship-on-ship fight. Heavy galleass fire meanwhile broke up the Ottoman approach before many vessels reached boarding range.
