The Cobra Widowmaker reduces the escort to a torpedo launcher and its supporting sensors. It can deliver another torpedo salvo every forty-five seconds in the game profile examined here. The design has no gun with which to engage fighters attacking from the side, rear, above, or below. Good detection cannot compensate for total dependence on another ship for self-defence, making this an extreme example of specialisation undermining survivability.

Widowmaker: torpedo specialisation without self-defence
Removing the Cobra's light turret leaves the sensor-rich Widowmaker unable to defend itself against fighters approaching from almost any direction.
