Why D-Day did not need seaplane tenders

Aircraft based in Britain already covered Normandy, while extra aviation ships would consume scarce sea room and complicate mine clearance and traffic control.

Question

Why did seaplane tenders play little part in the D-Day landings?

Short answer

Land-based aircraft already provided ample coverage, and aviation ships would have added risk and congestion without enough benefit.

Notes

Operation Overlord took place within range of a vast land-based air arm in Britain. Extra carriers or tenders would need protection and logistical support while adding little useful aircraft coverage. Their movements would also require cleared channels and operating space in crowded waters. British airfields could supply the necessary aviation without adding those demands to the landing operation.
