Why does Hong Kong still receive so little support when Singapore is being reinforced?
Short answerHong Kong is geographically indefensible; its reinforcements would be better used in the Malayan and Singapore defenses.
NotesBritish war planning treated Hong Kong as a base to be recaptured rather than one that could be held indefinitely. Its geography leaves it surrounded and makes reinforcement unrealistic. That makes it fundamentally different from Singapore, whose survival anchors a wider fleet and defensive network. The Canadian brigade sent to Hong Kong would have contributed much more to a focused defense of Singapore and Malaya.
