When gun counts become comparable

The simulation makes raw gun totals more informative than at Tsushima because both fleets use comparable weapons and rangefinding systems.

Notes

Raw gun totals can mislead at Tsushima because the weapons and capabilities were not uniform. In the simulated encounter, both sides use 16-inch batteries and broadly comparable rangefinding technology. They also employ those weapons in similar ways. Under these assumptions, a larger volume of fire provides more opportunities to score hits. The comparison depends on that technical similarity, so the same reasoning cannot simply be transferred to fleets with substantially different guns.
