The Western Squadron's blockade of Brest frames a reading guide to Royal Navy operations from 1793 to 1815, a span of nearly twenty-two years. Roger Knight's Convoys is recommended alongside N. A. M. Rodger's The Command of the Ocean. The recommendation presents Rodger's book as broad naval-history reading for roughly 1650 to 1850.
