The West Indies campaign's road to Guadeloupe

A regional survey traces British operations through the Danish West Indies, failed French relief expeditions, Martinique, and finally Guadeloupe.

Notes

The invasion closes a longer West Indies campaign running through the Napoleonic Wars. Alexander Cochrane brought 22 warships to seize St Thomas and St Croix in the Danish West Indies without bloodshed in 1807, after the second Battle of Copenhagen. The survey then covers two French resupply expeditions that arrived too late and were intercepted, followed by the invasion of Martinique, before Guadeloupe became the last major French position. The sequence shows the Royal Navy progressively stripping France and its allies of Caribbean bases.
