Wellington's coastal supply advantage in the Peninsular War

Royal Navy coastal supply protected Wellington's bulk stores and left French raiders facing the guarded final overland delivery stage.

Notes

Wellington's movements in the Peninsular War repeatedly brought his army close to the coast, where Royal Navy shipping could supply it. The bulk of his stores travelled by sea under warship protection. French forces already facing guerrillas and other difficulties could raid only the heavily guarded final overland stage of that supply route. They struggled to find the large, exposed supply convoys that would have accompanied an army dependent on inland transport.
