Why Aegis depends on airborne early warning

Hawkeye warning and sensor data explain why Aegis works as part of a wider air-defense system.

Notes

The Red Sea example links Aegis performance to the warning and targeting data available to it. Hawkeye support is credited with making ballistic-missile interceptions easier by seeing beyond the surface radar horizon and cueing air-defense weapons. The missiles depend on that data, so buying Aegis as an isolated system cannot reproduce the full network's performance. Even the complete system is not expected to work every time.
