Chapter · 1:10:38-1:16:03

Weapons trials prove the whole kill chain, not just the shot

A firing trial tests magazines, loading, launchers, sensors, software, outside targeting data, aviation support, and a new crew as one combat system.

Notes

The visible shot comes at the end of a much longer chain. The ship must store and resupply ammunition, move it safely, accept targeting information, coordinate sensors and aircraft, and make new software and machinery behave together. A first-of-class miss is therefore less revealing than whether the trial identifies faults across that integrated chain before the ship must fight.
