How worried should observers be if the Royal Navy revives famous capital-ship names and begins ordering Swan- and Flower-class escorts?
Short answerHypothetical orders for Flower-class escorts are interpreted as a warning of preparation for a major war.
NotesThe naming scenario includes Warspite, Tiger, Repulse, and Renown, along with Swan- and Flower-class escorts. Renewed Flower-class orders are interpreted as a warning that planners expect a large war. German 88 mm weapon testing, French torpedo development, and future carrier planning enter the comparison as similar signals. These are interpretations offered during the exchange, with no certainty about whether a war will occur.
