Abercrombie was still moving through the Indian Ocean for Operation Mailfist, the planned liberation of Singapore, when Japan surrendered. She continued east until September in case Japanese forces did not comply, because reversing such a slow ship twice would waste valuable time. Roberts also moved toward the theatre and had reached Kilindini Harbour in Kenya before being recalled. The sisters then had different post-war fates: Abercrombie was broken up in 1955, while Roberts was sold for scrap and hired back by the Navy as an accommodation ship at Devonport. Roberts's broad hull offered ample living space, and she remained in that role until 1965.
