Warspite displaced about 22,000 tons more than Belfast, which made a London berth harder to find. She had suffered severe damage and was badly worn after wartime service. Keeping her afloat would have required political commitment and money during years when Britain urgently wanted scrap steel. Renown, Queen Elizabeth, Vanguard, and other famous capital ships were also scrapped, and Britain preserved no dreadnought-era battleship. Warspite's record gave her a strong claim to preservation, but size, condition, steel demand, and postwar policy made survival unlikely.

Why Warspite was unlikely to be preserved
Warspite's fame faced practical obstacles: her size, damage, worn condition, postwar demand for steel, and Britain's poor record of preserving battleships.
