Operation Stab simulated an attack on the Andaman Islands to distract Japanese attention from American preparations for Guadalcanal. The operation adds Allied deception elsewhere in the theater to the usual battle-centered account of the campaign. Warspite then covered landings at Mahajanga and Toamasina during the Battle of Madagascar. These assignments show a battleship serving strategic diversion and amphibious support roles even when no opposing battle fleet appeared.
