Invergordon turns naval pay into a fleet crisis

Warspite's limited dismissals after the Invergordon Mutiny introduce the unequal pay cuts that provoked a disciplined fleet protest.

Notes

Warspite rejoined the Atlantic Fleet before the 1931 Invergordon Mutiny, yet only three sailors were dismissed from her afterward. The action was unusually orderly and resembled older naval protests over conditions and pay. The immediate grievance was that sailors doing the same work received different base rates depending on when they had entered the service. A proposal to reduce everyone to the lowest rate made a financial dispute into a fleet-wide institutional crisis.
