Warspite's final combat mission supported the Anglo-Canadian Operation Infatuate. Although Antwerp had been captured, German strongpoints and gun positions still controlled the Scheldt estuary and blocked effective use of the port. Warspite worked with the monitors HMS Erebus and HMS Roberts to bombard targets on Walcheren Island on 1 November 1944. She returned to Deal the following day after firing her guns for the last time. Her operational career ended in the shore-bombardment role that had kept a slow and damaged battleship useful through the final European campaigns.
