Warspite travelled through the Suez Canal and across the Indian and Pacific oceans to reach Bremerton Naval Shipyard in August 1941. The yard replaced her 15-inch gun barrels, added anti-aircraft weapons, altered the bridge, and installed new surface and air-warning radar. She remained at Bremerton during the attack on Pearl Harbor and went on alert because her anti-aircraft battery could contribute if the Pacific Northwest were attacked. After recommissioning in December and completing trials near Vancouver, she sailed down the American coast, crossed the equator, and reached Sydney. The repair and transit placed a rebuilt British battleship in position to join the Eastern Fleet in March 1942.
