Warspite as the Royal Navy's enduring capital ship

Warspite supplies the model for a British design built around continuity, repeated modernization, and battle-tested service rather than a new King George V-class ship or Vanguard.

Notes

The Royal Navy's most representative battleship of the Second World War was also one of its famous First World War veterans. HMS Warspite served as a flagship for Andrew Cunningham and James Somerville, fought at Cape Matapan, and later served as Eastern Fleet flagship during the 1942 Indian Ocean Raid. That career makes an older, modernized Venator a stronger fictional analogue than a new Imperial Star Destroyer. Refit and institutional confidence kept a proven capital ship central after newer classes entered service. Historical prominence can matter more than design recency when choosing a ship to represent a navy.
