Why a smaller warship can have greater presence

HMCS Haida shows how visual presence depends on a ship's lines, appearance, and upkeep as well as physical size.

Notes

HMCS Haida is preserved at Hamilton, Ontario. Some ships much larger than a Tribal-class destroyer can still have less presence. Size alone does not create that impression because a vessel's lines, appearance, maintenance, and presentation all matter. Haida is both a surviving combatant and an example of how design and upkeep shape a warship's visual presence.
