Restoring Warrior through trusts and royal support

Warrior's restoration depended on continued organizing and financial support before the Navy could release a hull it still used.

Notes

A 1967 proposal to restore Warrior as a London attraction failed because the Royal Navy still required her at Pembroke. The Duke of Edinburgh chaired a preservation meeting in 1968, and the Maritime Trust followed in 1969 with substantial backing from the Manifold Trust. The planned closure of the Llanion oil depot opened another opportunity. With restoration funding promised, the Navy donated Warrior in 1979. Accounts of heavy personal pressure from the Duke remain rumors, and many people contributed to securing the ship. The preservation trust acquired ownership in 1983 and took the Warrior Preservation Trust name in 1985.
