The war of 1741-43 centred on Finland and the politics surrounding Elizabeth's seizure of power. Swedish naval forces repeatedly tried to support combined amphibious operations, but the army's inactivity allowed Field Marshal Lacy's Russians to seize the initiative. The Swedish galley attack at the narrows in 1743 also entered an engagement whose conditions strongly favoured the Russian force. Sweden beheaded two generals for failure to fulfil its war policy. The peace placed the frontier at the Kymi River, leaving Sweden with a territorial loss after a campaign marked by weak coordination.
