War for the Empire shows a defeated fleet adapting

After catastrophic losses, a confederation reassesses the threat, orders surveillance, and revives a light-cruiser design to protect capital ships.

Notes

The fictional Confederation receives only 2,237 survivors from more than 8,000 ships sent against Earth. Analysts estimate that another attack would require at least 20,000 warships and cost 12,000 to 15,000, so the council defers it. Earth will remain under surveillance while damaged ships are repaired and forces turn against the human Empire. An archived light-cruiser design is to be modified and built across member shipyards to screen larger ships against small attack craft. The next offensive will begin with weaker peripheral worlds to reduce the resources reaching the heavily defended core.
