War films, remakes, and historical memory

Which war film should be remade, and what could a new version add?

Suggestions include Kelly's Heroes, The Battle of the River Plate, Red Tails, and Kingdom of Heaven, but opinions differ over whether remakes would improve their history.

Suggestions include Kelly's Heroes, The Battle of the River Plate, Red Tails, and Kingdom of Heaven, alongside objections to remaking established war films at all. Kelly's Heroes is proposed because a new ensemble of familiar actors could fill its central roles. The Battle of the River Plate offers a naval subject that has received little later film attention. Historical accuracy remains a concern, with 300 and Pearl Harbor attracting criticism and Kingdom of Heaven proposed for a more historically careful treatment. A separate proposal is for a Guadalcanal series covering the campaign's land, air, and sea operations together.
