The Visby class developed the Göteborg design and was also called the modified Town class, following the Göteborgs' Town-class name. Its wartime battery retained three 120 mm guns and six torpedo tubes while carrying four 40 mm and four 20 mm anti-aircraft guns. Depth charges and mines preserved the range of coastal fighting tasks available to the earlier class. Later frigate armament included two 57 mm guns, four 375 mm anti-submarine rocket launchers, and depth charges. The familiar destroyer layout provided a basis for a different postwar role.
