An underappreciated navy: Vietnam

Which navy deserves more attention than it receives?

The Vietnamese Navy is highlighted as a capable and strategically significant force that is often overlooked.

The answer distinguishes between a navy that is growing rapidly and one that deserves more notice for its existing quality. Denmark and Singapore receive brief acknowledgement as capable smaller naval powers. Vietnam is then singled out as the force most often overlooked in regional discussion. Its importance lies in its ships and a long record of producing effective strategic and tactical thinkers. That combination makes the Vietnamese Navy a more serious consideration for Chinese planners than its public profile might suggest.
