A 1900 view of HMS Psyche in Bermuda's original dock helped present the facility to the public and Parliament. The same structure could careen itself, receive small or large ships, serve as a fitting-out berth, and lift a major hull completely clear of the water. Those visible uses made the facility easier to justify than an asset with only one narrow task. Its engineering versatility strengthened the political case for sustained infrastructure spending.
