Damage by the German submarine UB-42 in the Mediterranean did not end Veronica's First World War service because repairs returned her to duty. She later joined the New Zealand Division. Berthed at Napier only three hours before the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, she transmitted the first call for outside assistance, bringing the cruisers Dunedin and Diomede. The seabed rose beneath her during the disaster, yet she was repaired again and remained serviceable until disposal in 1935.
