After Okinawa, Texas joined Operation Magic Carpet before reserve status, decommissioning, and conversion into a museum ship. She had contributed in two world wars without ever fighting another battleship. Her record instead shows the value of diplomacy, presence, escort, aviation experiments, amphibious support, air defense, and returning personnel home. The closing question asks viewers to identify other ships whose valuable careers never included the headline mission for which they were designed. Her survival allows restoration work to reveal more evidence about a warship whose long career demonstrates that ships are flexible systems rather than single-function weapons.
