Repairs after Cherbourg prepared Texas for another bombardment mission during Operation Dragoon, the Allied landing in Provence. When the European front moved beyond her guns, she returned to New York for a thirty-six-day repair period. Her worn main-battery barrels were replaced for the third and final time. Nine of the ten installed barrels had originally served aboard Texas from 1914 to 1923, then went to Pennsylvania before refurbishment and relining returned them to their first ship.
