Brooklyn supports the Squalus rescue operation

Brooklyn's prewar career includes support for the rescue and salvage effort after USS Squalus flooded during a test dive.

Notes

A failed main induction valve flooded USS Squalus's after torpedo room, engine rooms, and crew spaces during a test dive. Twenty-six of the submarine's 59 people died immediately, leaving the survivors trapped below. Thirty-three people were rescued, while four enlisted divers received the Medal of Honor for their work in the rescue and salvage effort. Brooklyn's supporting role places a large surface combatant inside the wider network of divers, rescue equipment, search ships, and command support required to save a disabled submarine.
