Limits of the US Marine Corps littoral strategy

The littoral concept fits a defensive Pacific opening, but very small units need a common amphibious vehicle and enough mass for sustained combat.

Question

What are your thoughts on the US Marine Corps littoral strategy?

Short answer

It suits an opening defensive phase, but risks being too small and needs a common amphibious armored vehicle family.

Notes

Dispersed defensive operations make sense early in a Pacific conflict, but the force may be becoming too small. Peacetime confidence in very small units often gives way to wartime demands for formations large enough to sustain combat. An alternative structure would center on an amphibious armored vehicle able to cross surf, negotiate coral, and move between nearby islands. Troop, missile, gun, and command variants would give the dispersed force common mobility and make it less dependent on light vehicles alone.
