Taking a town provides a modern analogy for fleet composition. Main battle tanks supply the heavy thrust, while armoured personnel carriers (APCs) bring infantry forward. Infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) can support the infantry when available. Drones provide observation around the force, attack helicopters form part of the proposed mix, and artillery remains available on call. Each capability contributes to the mission alongside the others. A fleet likewise needs the most balanced combination of capabilities it can assemble.
